It’s 10 p.m. Do you know where your kids are?
Um, who cares—Teen Wolf is back!
Our MTV obsession finally returns for the second half of its third season tonight at 10 p.m., bringing us back to our beloved Beacon Hills to get reacquainted with Scott (Tyler Posey), Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) and the rest of the gang.
But all is not well in Beacon Hills. In fact, you may want to keep the lights on when you watch tonight’s premiere, “Anchors,” as we can safely say it’s the show’s scariest outing ever. (Seriously, Stiles does not have a single one-liner! These are dark times indeed.) To preview Teen Wolf‘s “dark and scary” Season 3B, we chatted with Posey, O’Brien and Crystal Reed on the show’s Los Angeles set.
Posey teases that fans can expect this season’s pace to be slower, but oh-so-creepier.
“We always try to amp up the darkness and the scary level on Teen Wolf…this one is a little more methodical and slower, which makes it that much more creepy,” he previews. “There’s not so much happening, it’s not so confusing. It focuses on a few main things and that element alone makes it creepy, the slowness of it. It’s definitely scary.”
In the premiere, Stiles seems to be having the hardest time coping (or “having some trouble being sane,” as his portrayer puts it) with the residual effects of Deaton’s fancy (and dangerous) trick the trio pulled to save their parents’ lives in the season 3A finale. But O’Brien doesn’t want Stiles to lose the job of comic relief anytime soon. “Darker stuff is more challenging for me, I think. I just don’t want him to lose the funny because that would be stinky,” he tells us.
But fret not, it won’t be all doom and gloom as there is still time for romance. Just don’t call whatever is going on between Allison, her ex Scott and his roomie Isaac (Daniel Sharman) a love triangle.
“It’s definitely not going to be a love triangle,” Reed explains. “Allison and Scott are not together and Isaac and Allison are gradually becoming more friendly, but I don’t think it’s ever really defined as to what they are. But they are very close friends that occasionally hold hands.”
And while Scott “understands” that he and Allison are done, it doesn’t mean he’s OK with his fellow wolf and roomie making a move. “It just doesn’t create good scenarios,” Posey teases. “I don’t think it’s a love triangle per say, but it’s a triangle of some sort.”
Teen Wolf returns tonight at 10 p.m. on MTV.
And the main aspect that makes it so dark? Death is looming! “One of the characters that is really close to every single character in the show is at risk to lose their life and it’s evident in every single episode midway to the end,” Reed spills. “It’s been darker than any of the other seasons in that way. It’s more about how do we save our friend’s life. It’s a really, really serious problem and it feels like at any second they could die.” Gulp! Start your prayer circles now, people!
O’Brien adds, “We’re definitely doing a darker, scarier spin this year. A lot of people have been saying the first teaser is like Teen Wolf: American Horror Story edition, which is a compliment as far as I’m concerned. I think that’s so cool because I love American Horror Story. I’m personally a huge fan of that show, I think it’s fantastic. So if we’re compared toAmerican Horror Story at all, let’s just keep that going, but also, let’s not lose the fun and the funny!”
